August 5, 2012 ~ Bluegrass in the Barn

On Sunday, August 5, Evensong Farm is proud to welcome back Eddie & Martha Adcock with Tom Gray for a great evening of world-class Bluegrass.

As with our other Bluegrass in the Barn Events you are welcome to bring and enjoy your own picnic dinner (light refreshments will be available for purchase), and you are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. The gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and the show will begin around 5:30. No smoking is permitted anywhere near the barn, at any time.

For this special concert, “TwoGrass” duo Eddie & Martha Adcock will be joined by Tom Gray. Exciting, original and warmly intimate… rooted in their traditional heritage while often cruising the stratosphere… they are surely one of the most dynamic bluegrass-and-beyond string trios you’ll ever have the pleasure to hear.

For a few years now, Eddie, Martha and Tom have played concerts together whenever the opportunity presented, even touring Japan in a series of seven sold-out shows. This year, with a new CD release, they are eagerly hitting the trail to bring their magic to fans and friends across the USA.

The Adcocks are perhaps the most popular and enduring duo in bluegrass music today, joining forces three and a half decades ago to play their special vibrant brand of it. Tom Gray has long been one of the best-known and most respected bassists in bluegrass.

While Martha (a South Carolinian) is known for her evocative vocals and powerhouse rhythm guitar, Eddie (from Virginia) is lauded as one of the few truly original stylists on banjo and guitar. Tom Gray (of Maryland) is a compelling, critically acclaimed bassist whose agile, creative playing is distinctive and memorable. Vocally and instrumentally, they have few peers.

Eddie and Tom are also noted as the surviving half of one of the most innovative and influential bluegrass groups of all time, the legendary “Classic” Country Gentlemen of the Washington, DC area. Those iconic Country Gentlemen, which also included Charlie Waller and John Duffey, were inducted together as a band into the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Hall of Fame in 1996, the first group to be so awarded. They also were installed in the Washington Area Music Association’s Hall of Fame in 1996, with numerous other individual awards to their credit. In 2012, Eddie and Tom were declared “Washington Monuments” by the DC Bluegrass Union.

Eddie and Martha later partnered in the groundbreaking ’70s newgrass band II Generation, while Tom helped found the ever-popular Seldom Scene, all history-makers through decades.

Eddie & Martha Adcock with Tom Gray always deliver the goods, whether to a kid, a hipster or a senior. Sentimental favorites and true legends in bluegrass, yet ever-fresh and vital, this band of multi-award-winners always entertains and musically delights.

To reserve your seats for the show you can buy online now using the buttons above. Seating is limited and advance reservations are recommended.  The purchase price is a donation to the band, for their awesomeness, and to the farm, to help cover the costs of the event. Thanks so much!

This is a family friendly event at a working farm! We love to have kids enjoy the farm, and simply ask that a responsible adult be with them at all times. Your family may visit with the animals, as long as an Evensong staffer is present to show you around.
